MAYFLOWER, AR – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), in collaboration with the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce, has extended the “Cash In on Lake Conway” tagged fish promotion until February 29, 2024. This extension is due to the lower-than-expected number of tagged fish claimed by anglers.
AGFC Assistant Chief of Education JJ Gladden stated, “We had worked with the chamber to budget for many more fish being turned in, so the decision was made to honor the tags throughout winter.” Only two of the 55 tagged fish released into the lake were turned in by the initial deadline.
To stimulate more participation, the AGFC and the Chamber have doubled the reward for each tagged fish from $500 to $1,000. Nick Feltz, AGFC Fisheries Supervisor in Mayflower, emphasized the objective, saying, “We want people to be able to use the resource and harvest as many fish as they can.” He also noted that despite dropping water levels, areas like Adams Lake will remain fishable throughout winter.
Anglers who catch a tagged fish are directed to the AGFC website for claiming their reward, where they must provide photographic proof of the tagged fish. This initiative is not only a promotional activity but also part of the broader Lake Conway renovation project, aiming to enhance both the fishing experience and conservation efforts in the area.
